Around Newfoundland, Canada

The cold waters around Newfoundland had a surprising amount of life. In addition to various fishes, critters and corals, there were lots of jellifishes as well.

The most intriguing (and the largest) jellyfish was the Lion's Mane jellyfish (Cyanea capillata), also known as hair jelly. According to a very informative Wikipedia article, is the largest known species of jellyfish. Its range is confined to cold, boreal waters of the Arctic, northern Atlantic, and northern Pacific Oceans, seldom found farther south than 42°N latitude.
